Last week, Potlatch community members cooled off in the hot summer heat and celebrated the grand opening of “Kelly’s Scenic 6 Splash Pad,” located in Potlatch’s Scenic 6 park.

Not only does the project provide a way for community members to stay cool this summer, but it also is significant to the community as a whole.

The splash pad is named after Kelly Dahlquist, former CEDA Community Development Manager, who spearheaded the project. Dahlquist was a leader across North Central Idaho from 2010 to 2018, playing an important role in supporting rural communities.

Dahlquist, unfortunately, lost her battle to cancer in July 2019, but her legacy and memory live on in this project — her final completed during her impactful career.

She also inspired Idaho Rural Water Association’s Kelly Dahlquist Community Impact Award and was the first recipient, awarded post-humus in April 2020.

The project was partially funded with an $80,000 Community Development Block Grant, awarded by Idaho Commerce. The City of Potlatch, Potlatch Recreation District and volunteers provided a local match of $40,000. The CDBG program is used to support community development.
