Idaho Commerce Announces IGEM Grant Recipients

BOISE, Idaho (June 3, 2020) – Idaho Commerce is pleased to announce the latest recipients of two Idaho Global Entrepreneurial Mission (IGEM) grants. IGEM funds are awarded to Idaho public research universities to partner with industry leaders on research projects geared toward commercialization.

On May 12, the IGEM Council awarded Boise State University with a grant in the amount of $248,083 to assist industry partner, Pitch Aeronautics LLC, with the development of its cyclorotor drone and the incorporation of a novel thermography sensor system. “This project leverages two complimentary technologies to develop a more efficient, safer solution for inaccessible, remote infrastructure and industrial inspections,“ said Tom Kealey, Idaho Commerce Director.

The Council also approved funding in the amount of $212,000 to the University of Idaho for research and development in detecting food allergen proteins in human milk. This research will help industry partner, Free to Feed Inc., in advancing their patent-pending technology. “IGEM’s ability to help both Free to Feed and Pitch Aeronautics, demonstrates its meaningful role in Idaho’s emerging startup ecosystem,” stated Kealey.

This fiscal year, the IGEM Council has awarded $953,711 for research to commercialize innovations that benefit Idaho and beyond.
