Canada-Based eCobalt Receives Corporate Investment and Community Impact (CiCi) Award for Idaho Projects

BOISE, Idaho—Monday, May 21, 2018—Trade & Industry Development, a leading site selection publication, announced the winners of the 13th Annual Corporate Investment and Community Impact (CiCi) awards. eCobalt Solutions, a Vancouver, British Columbia-based company operating the Cobalt Mine in Salmon, Idaho, and a processing facility on a railhead in Blackfoot, Idaho was among the recipients recognized for having made a significant investment in their respective communities. As the nation’s only environmentally permitted primary cobalt project, the Salmon mine will produce cobalt used in rechargeable batteries.

“It is no surprise that eCobalt Solutions is being recognized for their significant investment in the State of Idaho and for putting Idaho on the map as the primary high- grade cobalt reserve production location,” said Idaho Commerce Director Bobbi-Jo Meuleman. “The Idaho Cobalt Project is expected to create close to 170 new jobs at between the Salmon and Blackfoot locations and will build upon Idaho’s extensive mining industry and our refining capabilities.”

According to the announcement, “eCobalt’s decision to operate a refinery in Blackfoot was driven by existing water and sewer lines to support the refinery’s construction site, an ideal strategic location with nearby highway and rail access to transport cobalt and a large local and regional labor pool.”

“This is another example of the positive impacts that the mining industry has on the rural communities in Idaho,” said Ben Davenport, Executive Vice President at the Idaho Mining Association. “eCobalt continues to invest in the Salmon and Blackfoot communities as they construct this project. Their commitment to responsible and sustainable resource development in Idaho has the potential to bring many high paying jobs to some of the more rural parts of our state. We at the Idaho Mining Association look forward to seeing this project progress and fully support their efforts and the investments they have made in the local communities.”

eCobalt Solutions, Inc. is one of only 15 projects recognized nationally in the Community Impact Award category.
