State Seeks Nominees for Recreation and Tourism Award

BOISE, Idaho – February 23, 2015 – Nominations are now open for outstanding lifetime achievement in the fields of Idaho recreation and tourism. A selection will be made by Governor C.L. “Butch” Otter for an individual that has made significant contributions to developing, managing or conserving Idaho’s recreation resources, or developing, managing or promoting tourism in Idaho. The award will be presented in May during the Idaho State Conference on Recreation and Tourism and National Travel and Tourism Week (May 2-10, 2015).

The annual conference is sponsored by tourism related organizations and partners to provide an industry forum for public, private and non-profit travel professionals throughout Idaho. This year’s conference will be held May 5-7 at The Riverside Hotel in Boise.

Nominations for the 2015 Governor’s Lifetime Achievement Award will be accepted until April 3. Contact Laurie McConnell at 208.287.0781 or visit the Idaho Department of Commerce website to download a nomination form.

Tourism consistently ranks within the top five industries in Idaho and has successfully rebounded from the economic downturn. Idaho lodging tax collections are up 8.37% over first 6 months of fiscal year 2014 at more than $5.3 million.
