Payette seeks downtown beautification

Payette City Council has its eyes on beautifying its downtown district to attract more commerce.

There are a couple of routes the council discussed at its work session March 5, including joining Idaho’s Main Street program and reviving Payette’s own Downtown Facade program.

States coordinate Main Street programs under the National Trust for Historic Preservation. Idaho’s was established in 2012 with the Idaho Department of Commerce, and it works with local nonprofit and government agencies to improve historical downtown areas.

Currently, there are three communities — Nampa, Lewiston and Driggs — in the Idaho Main Street program, according to program manager Jerry Miller.
