Created in 1990, the Benewah Medical Center was the result of the first partnership between the Indian Health Service (HIS) and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to establish a tribally run community health center.

Phase III of the project, Coeur d’Alene Tribe Wellness Center (pictured), opened in July of 1998 with the help of State CDBG funding and other partners.

Following a renaming ceremony in 2017, both Benewah Medical Center and its affiliate Coeur d’Alene Tribe Wellness Center became known as Marimn Health. Pronounced mar-ee-min, Marimn is a Coeur d’Alene tribal language word based on the verb “marim,” meaning “to treat.”
