Idaho Commerce Announces IGEM Grant Recipient
BOISE, ID—April 4, 2016 —The Idaho Department of Commerce is pleased to announce the award of a 2016 Idaho Global Entrepreneurial Mission (IGEM) grant.
Idaho Commerce IGEM grant funds – managed by the IGEM Council and totaling $950,000 annually – are awarded to universities who have partnered with industry leaders on projects geared toward commercialization.
On March 30, 2016, the IGEM Council approved funding in the amount of $148,927 to Boise State University for research and evaluation on a new, innovative orthopedic product that prevents injury by limiting excessive inversion of the ankle. The Ankle Roll Guard™ is a new patented technology that addresses the limitations of existing prophylactic devices in the market. IGEM funding will be used to quantify and compare the Ankle Roll Guard’s effectiveness with existing orthopedic products. The quantitative data will better position this product and its design to penetrate the market.
“As the IGEM program continues to mature, it’s exciting to see new products and research partnerships being developed,” said Idaho Commerce Director Megan Ronk. “This project represents a tremendous opportunity for Boise State to enhance a key academic team, while simultaneously providing a truly innovative Idaho entrepreneur the research support his product needs to gain momentum in the marketplace.”
Idaho Commerce is accepting applications for the final round of IGEM grant funding for FY2016. The application deadline is May 6, 2016. Please visit the IGEM website for application information: https://igem.idaho.gov.
