State Seeks Nominees for Recreation and Tourism Award
Lifetime Achievement Award winner will be selected by the Governor
BOISE, Idaho – February 14, 2014 – Nominations are now open for outstanding lifetime achievement in the fields of Idaho recreation and tourism. A selection will be made by Governor C.L. “Butch” Otter for an individual who has made significant contributions to developing, managing or conserving Idaho’s recreation resources, or developing, managing or promoting tourism in Idaho. The award will be presented during the Idaho State Conference on Recreation and Tourism and National Travel and Tourism Week (May 3-11, 2014).
The annual conference is sponsored by tourism-related organizations and partners to provide an industry forum for public, private and non-profit travel professionals throughout Idaho. This year’s conference will be held May 6-8 at the Sun Valley Resort.

Tourism consistently ranks within the top five industries in Idaho and has successfully rebounded from the economic downturn. Idaho lodging tax collections are up 5.9% over fiscal year 2012, surpassing pre-recession tax collections. In 2011, tourism in Idaho generated $3.9 billion in spending, $516 million in tax receipts and 23,900 jobs according to the U.S. Travel Association.
