UpdateIdaho.com
UpdateIdaho.com is Idaho Tourism's online database. It allows you to list your Idaho lodging property, attraction, event, and vacation package information on the official state travel and tourism site VisitIdaho.org as well as some regional sites.
The best part is that it's free! That's right - your listing can be seen by thousands of soon-to-be visitors who are just discovering what makes Idaho so special.
Get started at www.updateidaho.com. Here you can register a new account, gain access to a listing or log-in to make changes to your listings.
Detailed instructions can be found here, but we've provided some extra tips below.
This can sometimes be confusing, especially if you have an event that lasts an entire season, or an attraction that has limited accessibility.
An event is an activity that occurs over a specified period and is "portable." That means it could be held elsewhere (though nowhere as fabulous as Idaho!). The length of time an event is available for attending or participation may be as short as one afternoon, or as long as the entire summer!
In contrast, an attraction is a "permanent" place such as a natural feature like Shoshone Falls, or a museum or theme park. In terms of millennia, permanence is relative, but an attraction can generally be expected to remain in one place!
The real question here is, "How much time do I want to spend updating my lodging listings?" This often comes up for vacation rentals - condos and cabins.
If you have four single-family properties, ranging in price from $125-300/day during the peak season, a single entry will fit the bill. But if one property is a lodge that sleeps 28, it makes sense to list it separately to catch the eye of someone interested in holding a big family reunion.
We allow 2 property type choices with plenty of room for details such as number of rooms, prices, amenities, and directions to the property, and even a Google map.
First of all, we treasure all the fun and interesting things that are available in Idaho. That being said, not all events and attractions are appropriate for VisitIdaho.org. The website's target audience is potential visitors. Most are inquiring from all over the west, including Idaho. Suitable community events and programs should motivate travelers to visit a location for either a day trip or, hopefully, an overnight or more at their destination. Ask yourself, "will my event motivate someone to make a special trip to come and stay in my city?" If not, the event/attraction probably isn't appropriate for VisitIdaho.org. Community events such as flea markets, fundraisers for cause are not appropriate for Visitidaho.org.
