International Tourism Marketing
The Division of Tourism promotes Idaho as a destination to international travelers from Europe, Scandinavia and Australia by partnering with Montana, Wyoming, and South Dakota in the consortia, RMI - Rocky Mountain International. RMI is one of the longest-standing and most successful multi-state partnerships in the tourism industry. Idaho also has state business offices in Mexico and Taiwan and trade offices in China and Japan which are involved in promoting Idaho tourism.
Thirty scenic byways cross Idaho, featuring majestic mountains, rushing rivers, crystal clear lakes, wildlife viewing, historic trails, pristine wilderness, nature, and adventure. Idaho’s premier tourism products are whitewater rafting, kayaking, mountain biking, golf, and winter skiing. Idaho boasts the most acres of wilderness area and the most miles of whitewater rivers in the lower 48 states. Destination resorts include Sun Valley, Coeur d’Alene, Schweitzer Mountain, Silver Mountain, and the tribally-owned Coeur d’Alene Casino Resort, all offering year-round activities.
Cultural/Heritage Tourism is abundant in Idaho. The Oregon Trail crosses
through southern Idaho and the route of Lewis and Clark Expedition
utilizing ancient Indian trails crossing the northern area. Idaho was
the home of Sacajawea and her tribe, the Lemhi-Shoshone. An Interpretive
Cultural and Education Center that commemorates this fact is located
near the town of Salmon. The World Center for Birds of Prey is located
near Boise. It has fantastic educational exhibits, including birds, at
the headquarters for the propagation of endangered raptor species.
Powwows, rodeos, cultural celebrations and festivals fill the calendar
with a variety of interesting choices. These activities are great
opportunities to meet the people of Idaho and experience the Real
America!
