Gem Air Offering New Flights

Gem Air Offering New Flights between Salmon and Boise

SALMON, Idaho – July 23, 2014 – Regularly scheduled roundtrip commuter flights between the popular small town of Salmon and Idaho’s capital city are back in service.  The Gem Air flights are a welcome relief to the Salmon area which has not had scheduled service for several years.

Salmon is known as the most remote city in the country, being at least four highway hours away from any major population centers. The drive from Salmon to Boise can take more than five hours under the best driving conditions while the new flights take just 65-minutes. This renewed air service opens doors to river users, sporting enthusiasts, meeting attendees and business travelers.  Residents feel far less isolated and businesses feel far more connected.

Gem Air, LLC began the air service on June 12 and is currently operating Tuesday through Friday, with plans to add days. The flights depart Salmon at 9:00 a.m., arriving in Boise at 10:05 a.m. The return leaves Boise at 2:00 p.m. arriving in Salmon at 3:05 p.m. Please visit or call 208.756.7382 for detailed flight information.  Additional flights will be added in the near future.  Gem Air’s introductory rate for on-line booking is $175.

Gem Air owners Dan Schroeder and JoAnn Wolter are veterans of the flight service business, having operated in the Idaho skies for over 30 years.  They feel providing this commuter service to the community is vital for its economic and even physical health. The service has already benefitted the Steele Memorial Clinic in its successful effort to bring health specialists from Boise to Salmon on a regular monthly schedule.

Gem Air’s aircraft include a made-in-Idaho, eight passenger Quest Kodiak turbo-prop and a twin engine, four passenger Piper Seneca. In addition to commuter service flights to Boise, charter flights are available to Idaho Falls, Sun Valley, Salt Lake City, Coeur D’Alene and Missoula, Montana.

Gem Air is pursuing mass marketing awareness campaigns and inter-line agreements with large airlines to simplify travel to Salmon. For current flight information, accommodations, traveler information and to book online, visit
