Operation Facelift Underway in Magic Valley

June 17--RUPERT -- People rolled and brushed beige paint over the blue cinderblock walls of Well House No. 1 on Wednesday, while others rolled landscape tarp over bare islands in the parking lot and arranged potted trees and shrubs on top for planting.

Despite the hard work, hot sun and no pay, no one complained.

"We just want to make Rupert beautiful," said Kim Harper, standing beneath the city's iconic water tower.

Harper was one of more than 200 volunteers who started work Saturday on several community rehabilitation projects in Rupert, at the outset of this year's Operation Facelift.
