Idaho Tourism’s “Great Idaho Getaway Project” Campaign Kicks Off
2/9/2010
Boise, Idaho (February 9, 2010)-The Idaho Division of Tourism has launched its 2010 marketing campaign, “The Great Idaho Getaway Project” at www.greatidahogetaway.org.
In merging traditional marketing with digital technologies, the Tourism Division invited one Northwest family to experience a true Idaho family vacation, to showcase Idaho’s diverse and scenic beauty and outdoor recreation opportunities and to prove our brand “Adventures in Living”. A family of four from Seattle was chosen among close to 50 who applied to be guests of the state of Idaho on a 10-day, 2,200 mile adventure throughout the Gem state.
Traveling in a motor-home, the family traveled on some of Idaho’s Scenic Byways to explore the state’s beautiful outdoors. A camera crew accompanied the family to document their many adventures.
The Tourism Division wanted to capture the family’s experiences and showcase them online so the world might see Idaho’s many opportunities for adventure and travel.
“Our goal was to gather footage of our great state. Our agency, Drake Cooper, came to us with the idea to bring an over-worked, stressed out big-city dweller to Idaho to get away from it all and reconnect with their family in the beautiful outdoors of Idaho,” said Karen Ballard, Administrator for the Idaho Division of Tourism. “The result was over 55 hours of footage we now have to use and to share with our Idaho tourism suppliers. We know video is a vital part of the online user experience and we wanted to show our visitors what a real vacation in Idaho is like. The Lumpkin Family were great sports and are really helping Idaho illustrate the message of Adventures in Living,” Ballard said.
Shot last June, the family’s adventures spanned the state from Boise to Idaho Falls, McCall to Coeur d’Alene and included donated activities such as whitewater rafting, golfing, hiking and biking. A second crew followed two weeks later to capture beauty shots from across the state, which have been interspersed throughout the film and are featured in the snippet entitled “eye candy”.
