Boise, ID: Looking for unique Idaho-themed gifts for the holidays? The Idaho State Historical Society offers a variety of gifts featuring Idaho history and the Society’s rich collections.
The Public Archives and Research Library (PARL) has opened an on-line gift shop with note cards, tote bags, mugs, and aprons featuring historic black and white images from their extensive photograph collections and colorful images from the Idaho Trademark collection. The gift shop is available at Zazzle Shop.
The Idaho Historical Museum has cards depicting Idaho scenes and sites featuring works by Idaho watercolorist Alan Stanford, in conjunction with their newest exhibition, A Watercolor Journey through Idaho. Also available are tree ornaments and jewelry crafted by local artists, kits replicating historic dolls and toys, Lewis and Clark items, dozens of books featuring Idaho history, as well as the plush Museum mascot, Deja Moo, the two-headed calf. Located at 610 Julia Davis Drive in Boise, the Historical Museum Store is open Tuesday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Saturdays from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
The Old Idaho Penitentiary, located at 2445 Old Penitentiary Road in Boise, sells items unique to the Old Pen, including postcards, mugs, magnets, “historic” coal from the 1951 steam plant and more. The historic site is open daily from noon to 5:00 p.m.
“All profits from sale of gift shop items support the programs and services of the Idaho State Historical Society,” says Linda Morton-Keithley, administrator of the Public Archives and Research Library. “We hope you’ll give the gift of Idaho with these truly unique items.”
