Idaho’s 511 Service Still Going Strong
11/18/2009
Boise, Idaho (November 18, 2009)-Idaho’s 511 Program, a public service of the Idaho Transportation Department and the Idaho Division of Tourism, is designed to help travelers access information about travel conditions and closures, weather, and tourism opportunities via the phone (dial 511), the Web (511.idaho.gov), and mobile Web applications. Information is available 24-hours a day, seven days a week at no cost to users.
Recent improvements to Idaho's 511 Traveler Services Web site will help motorists become better informed about winter conditions on Idaho’s highways and make safer travel decisions.
Visitors to the Web site will find two bandwidth options: The low-bandwidth site that may be best for users who access the Web through dial-up connections, or a high-bandwidth version for high-speed Internet users.
The low-bandwidth site features a large map, an event list in geographic order for each route below the map and a print option to provide an event list for selected routes. The high-bandwidth site includes a more interactive map based on Google Map technology.
Users can select from a detailed list of features located in the menu bar on the left of the map. Visitors to both low- and high-bandwidth sites also can check images from more than 130 roadside cameras and can learn of highway conditions on Idaho’s mountain passes.
A mobile Web site is available for customers using “Smartphone” mobile devices. Type in 511.idaho.gov in the address bar and the Web site automatically redirects all phones to the mobile website.
When clicking on Tourism Information, visitors are directed to the state’s tourism Web site, www.visitidaho.org, for information on attractions, events and lodging.
For more information, visit 511.idaho.gov.
