National Magazine Says Dogs Have a Nice Set-Up in Lewiston
8/28/2009
Lewiston, ID: Add “a good life for Fido” to the growing list of Lewiston's best attributes, according to national magazines.
U.S. News and World Report placed Lewiston on a list of the top 10 places to live for pet owners. The magazine ranked towns based on weather, population density and availability of green spaces such as parks. According to a blurb on the magazine's Web site, Lewiston scored high marks for its mild climate, which affords pets and their owners lots of time to be outside in the more than 20 public parks in the city as well as the “seven square miles of green space within 15 miles.”
A picture of Hells Canyon ran with the blurb on Lewiston and a note saying dogs can stay for no extra charge at Kirkwood Historic Ranch.
The ranch in the heart of Hells Canyon does not offer lodging, but is a popular stop for jet boaters and whitewater rafters traveling through Hells Canyon. Lewiston does allow dogs in parks but requires them to be leashed.
Lewiston was recognized earlier this year by Outdoor Life magazine as the top town in the nation for people who love to hunt and fish. Sunset magazine named Hells Gate State Park one of the top campgrounds in the Pacific Northwest. National Geographic Adventure recognized the town for its proximity to water-based recreation. An insurance group named Lewiston the sixth safest place to live in the country, and the town has been named one of the best places to buy a home.
