Idaho Economic Advisory Council

The Economic Advisory Council was established under Idaho Code 67-4704.  The Council's main purpose is to advise the Governor and the Department of Commerce on goals and objectives that further economic development within the state.  The council also makes recommendations to the Governor on applications for block grant funding and reviews Industrial Revenue Bond allocations.  In addition, Council members advise their regions on economic development opportunities and represent their interests to state government. The council consists of seven members, appointed by the Governor, with one member appointed from each of the state's six economic development regions and one member appointed at-large. Members serve three year terms and can be reappointed.

Janice McMillian, Chair

Region II

Term

Mrs. McMillan is an experienced agricultural professional, working in the administration of the Primeland Cooperatives and owning/operating her own farm with her husband Larry.  In addition, she was the Assistant Vice President of FirstBank Northwest.  Her civic duties include serving as the Treasurer and a Board Member of the Latah County Economic Development Council, the President and board member of the Moscow Chamber of Commerce, the President of the Kiwanis Club of Moscow and the Chair of the Latah County Parks Board.  Mrs. McMillan earned an Associates Degree in Business from Spokane Community College and is continuing her education with the Financial Institute of Education at the University of Idaho.  Along with her husband, she has two married daughters.

Ron Amarel

Region III

Term

Mr. Amarel is the Managing Director of Operations for Nunhems in Parma.  As a seasoned veteran of the agricultural industry, he has owned and operated his own business, worked as the Branch Manager for ARCO Seed in northern California and was the Vice President of Production with Sunseeds before accepting his current position with Nunhems.  Mr Amarel holds a degree in Agriculture Management and Plant Production from Yuba College and lives in Middleton with his supportive wife Lynette and four daughters.

Kelly Anderson

Region IV

Term

Mr. Anderson is the Regional President for Zions Bank in Burley.  With over 27 years experience as a Banker, he has worked in commercial lending with Farm Credit, Security Pacific Bank, Bank of America and Zions Bank in Utah and California.  He serves on the Executive Board of the Idaho Technology Council and is a board member for the Mini Cassia Commerce Authority and Business Plus.  He holds a Bachelor Degree in agriculture economics from Brigham Young University and is a graduate of the Pacific Coast Banking School.  Mr. Anderson and his wife Leslie live in Burley, where they have six children and seven grandchildren.

Arlen Wittrock

Region V

Term

  Mr. Wittrock is a Public Affairs and Communications Consultant with ON Semiconductor in Pocatello.  He has over 30 years of business experience and is a former teacher, education professional and Chief of Staff to U.S. Congressman Arlen Erdahl.  As a dedicated civic leader, he currently serves on the boards of the Greater Pocatello Chamber of Commerce, Bannock Development Corporation and the Associated Tax Payers of Idaho.  He holds both Master and Bachelor degrees in Political Science and lives in Pocatello.  Arlen is a married to his wife Yvonne and is father of two.

Corey B. Smith

Region VI

Term

Mr. Smith is the founder of PharmEase, a long-term care pharmacy, with operations is Idaho, Colorado, Utah and Montana.  He also owns two retail pharmacies in Idaho Falls.  With more than 20 years experience in business, Mr. Smith has served as a Brand Manager for Pillsbury, H.J. Heinz Company and Ocean Spray Cranberries.  He is the current Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Eastern Idaho Entrepreneurial Center in Rexburg and is a part-time faculty member of the Business Department at BYU-Idaho.  Mr. Smith holds master and bachelor degrees in Business Management from Brigham Young University and lives in Idaho Falls with his wife Cindy and four children.

Margaret Watson

At Large

Term

Mrs. Watson is Co-Owner of the J.C. Watson Company in Parma. As a former Mayor, Parma City Council President and Special Education Teacher, Mrs. Watson is dedicated to public service.  She sits on the Teach Idaho Advisory Board and is a former Parma Chamber of Commerce Board Member and President.  She holds Bachelor Degrees in Special Education and History from the University of Idaho and is the parent of two children along with her husband Jon.

As the former Mayor of Parma, I am aware of the tremendous needs facing rural Idaho communities in regards to infrastructure and economic development.
